MP’S DEATH: OVER E35 000 STOLEN AT ACCIDENT SCENE

Africa-Press – Eswatini. The family of deceased Mayiwane Member of Parliament (MP), Gcina ‘Shebeleza’ Dlamini, believes that over E35 000 was stolen yesterday morning soon after he was involved in a fatal car accident.

According to his family, the legislator is believed to have died when he crashed into a waiting room near Buhleni, on his way home from Limpopo, South Africa (SA). The accident is said to have occurred around 5:30am and the police suspect that the deceased had a long drive, which resulted in fatigue and sleepiness. The MP was driving a Toyota Hilux GD6. Elder brother to the deceased, Sipho, who was found at the MP’s home at Mayiwane yesterday with other family members, said they were unhappy after some people who were first to arrive at the accident scene allegedly stole cash from the deceased. “We are sure that the money he had with him in the car when he was involved in the accident was around E50 000. We were able to recover only E15 000 and the rest was stolen,” he alleged.

Communication

He claimed that they had been in constant communication with his brother while he was in SA and on his way back to Eswatini, hence the knowledge about the money. Sipho further disclosed that as members of the family, they confronted one of the people they highly suspected to have stolen the cash. “We approached the man from Fontotje and we demanded that he give us back the money he stole from the vehicle. He confessed that he did steal some of the money but just a little and he was not aware who took the rest of the missing cash,” said Sipho. It could not be ascertained what had raised suspicions to point fingers at this particular person, save for the fact that he was one of the first people to arrive at the scene.

Relatives

During a visit to the MP’s home yesterday, some members of the family were found talking among themselves about the allegedly stolen cash from the deceased MP’s vehicle. These included elders of the family as well as sisters and other relatives of the deceased. The family members vowed that they would not let the issue slide, but would deal with the prime suspect once they were done with the burial of the legislator.

Meanwhile, mourners were already gathered at the MP’s homestead to pass their condolences and comfort the family in their time of loss. They included community leaders in the Constituency’s Indvuna Yenkhundla, Hhohho Dlamini, Bucopho from Mkhuzweni Thembi Shabangu from Mkhweni, Thulani Mndzebele and from Mfasini, Mirriam Mkhonta. Also present was Kappa Kappa Manager Qiniso Gumedze. This was a team run by the deceased MP as he was its chairman. There were also police officers present at the home, who included well-known Roya Leopard official Frank Hurube, who is also the deceased’s neighbour at Mayiwane. “We are more than just neighbours but are related. We are truly sad over his passing and we don’t know how to deal with such a situation. As the people of Mayiwane, we are short for words following this unfortunate incident,” Hurube said.

Further, elders of the family decided that it was not ideal for the vehicle in which the MP was driving to be kept at his home due to cultural beliefs. A decision was made to take it to the insurance company when removed from the accident scene. This, according to the family members, was meant to protect the children as it could have been more traumatic for them to see the condition or the wreckage of the vehicle after an accident in which their father had died on the same day. The passing of the legislator spread like wild fire yesterday morning on social media platforms. The MP left behind his wife and an undisclosed number of children. The family and community members are reportedly yet to meet and finalise funeral arrangements, which include a memorial service. Other MPs who passed away while serving in the current term are Shiselweni I MP, who also served as Minister of Public Service, Christian Myekeni Ntshangase and LaMgabhi MP Makhosi Vilakati.
