Africa-Press – Eswatini. The country’s two farmer organisations have agreed to work together in lobbying policies, markets and farmer services for the benefit of Eswatini farmers.
Eswatini National Agricultural Union (ESNAU) and Eswatini Farmers Co-operative Union (ESWAFCU) yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding (Mou) at the George Hotel in Manzini. ESNAU is the apex body of farmer organisations in the Kingdom of Eswatini that safeguards the interests of farmers through advocacy and capacity building, among other things.
ESWAFCU, on the other hand, is an apex body representing all farming and multi-purpose co-operatives in Eswatini to improve their access to inputs, equipment, markets and technical information. Both parties are farmers’ organisations in Eswatini and with a common mandate of ensuring that the interest of local farmers is met through advocacy representation, defending and lobbying for a conducive environment.
Cooperate
During yesterday’s festivities, the organisations, among other things, agreed to cooperate in areas that support access to farming inputs and entrance into commodity markets for farmers and farmers’ enterprises. The organisations have further agreed to engage and implement initiatives that aim at mobilising and promoting youth and women participation in farming. They have further committed to cooperating in ensuring timely access to affordable tractors and implement services for farmers.
