In a press conference, the President of the European Commission said that “Europe is the most reliable partner” and even “the most important” of Africa. Ursula Von der Leyen also said that the program will be discussed at the eighth African Union Summit, which takes place from the 17th to the 18th of this month, which is why she traveled to Senegal.
The president of the European Commission did not give details on how the money will be spent. However, it is known that the Global Gateway Program has a total of 300 billion euros to invest worldwide until 2027. In other words, half of the Program’s money is destined for the African continent.
Aid should arrive on the ground within the next five years and the fastest is the €125 million the EU announced this week to help extend vaccination in Africa.
