Africa-Press – Eswatini. Mlungisi Makhanya, the President of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) says King Mswati’s government made a huge mistake by appointing a drunkard as Government Spokesperson.

Current affairs program on Friday shortly after Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo released a statement clarifying that King Mswati was not referring to the police when calling for the silencing of guns, the PUDEMO President described the statement as insensitive.

“This is what normally happens when you take a drunkard from a drinking spot and appoint him a Government Spokesperson. This statement is an indication that he doesn’t even understand the African Union Agenda 2063 that seeks to end armed conflicts. The AU Agenda 2063 seeks to undertake programs to end armed conflicts in the African continent,” he said.

The PUDEMO President warned Mswati’s regime that as a political organization, they won’t ‘donate’ their members and other Swazis to be shot with impunity by security forces. He said self-defense “is a global human right” adding that PUDEMO took a resolution to defend its members and other Swazis.

On another note,Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo clarified that Mswati was not stopping police officers from shooting with his “silencing guns” statement.

“The call to silence the guns was never directed to the national security services, especially the police service. To make inferences that the call means that the police can no longer legitimately use guns to protect themselves when being attacked by criminals and by other rowdy elements in society,is not only mischievous but also plain naive,”said the Government Spokesperson in a statement released on Friday afternoon.
