Africa-Press – Eswatini. Global inflation stood at 1.21% in March this year, 0.03 percentage point (pp) higher than that recorded in the previous period.
But if compared with the same period, inflation reduced by 0.98 percentage points.
Contributed to the “slight” increase in inflation, imported products with 0.72 percentage points or 59% and domestic products with 0.49 percentage points, which corresponds to 41% of the global inflation value, according to the Index Wholesale Price Wholesale Price Index published by the National Statistics Institute (INE).
The year-on-year change in March stood at 15.18%, registering a drop of 15.92 percentage points in relation to the same period of the previous year.
The trend of the year-on-year variation in the last 3 years, until the month of March, is increasing, reversing its direction, from April 2022, according to INE.
During the month of March of this year, the prices of domestic products increased by 1.92%, compared to February, with Section D – Manufacturing Industries having the highest price increase, with 1.94%.
In the period under analysis, the products that had the greatest price variation in this group were offal (4.17%), beer (3.81%), corn flour (3.34%), frozen horse mackerel (3.22% ), wheat flour (2.78%), goat meat (2.57%), beef (2.52%), smoked catfish (2.46%), wine (2.34%).
Other products include dried horse mackerel (2.33%), brandy (2.24%), gin (2.05%), mineral water (2.03%), pork (1.63%), gaseous (1.56%), roasted coffee (1.51%) and dried meat (1.50%), among the main ones.
The accumulated variation of national products in March 2023 was 5.78%,
During the month of March 2023, the prices of national products increased by 1.92% compared to the month of February, with Section D – manufacturing industries registering the highest price increase with 1.94%.
The prices of imported products had an increase of 0.96% in relation to the previous month.
Price changes were influenced by those set in Section A, such as agriculture, animal production, hunting and forestry, with 1.23%.
The products that most increased in prices were onion (2.23%), reindeer potatoes (1.68%), eggs (1.60%), grain corn (1.59%), cabbage (1.49%) , garlic (1.32%), tomato (1.10%), ginger and apple (1.00%) each, carrots (0.77%), pear (0.67%), lemon (0.62% ) and brown beans with 0.59%, among the main ones.
The accumulated variation of imported products in March 2023 was 2.83%, according to the INE report.
