Africa-Press – Eswatini. LOCAL CAF envoys Green Mamba and Young Buffaloes have been handed a tricky draw in the 2023 CAF Interclub competitions.
The reigning MTN Premier League champions will take on Mozambican champions USM de Songo in the CAF Champions League while Buffaloes will face Nedbank Cup runner up Sekhukhune United in the Confederation Cup following the draw conducted yesterday.
The preliminary round ties will be played between August 18-20 and August 25-27 on dates still to be confirmed by CAF.
The correctional services side will be making their return to continental football since the 2019 edition where they were knocked out in the preliminary round by Zambian giants Zesco United.
On the other hand, the army side will be making its second appearance in the second premier club competition where they were knocked out by Zambian side Red Arrows.
Green Mamba head coach Ernest Mavuso said they would implement extensive preparations for the assignment.
“This is a tricky draw for us as we will be facing a strong side that plays physical football but we will modify our training methods in order to overcome them,” he said
The two sides are likely to play their home matches on foreign soil possibly in Mozambique and South Africa due to the current ban on both the Somhlolo National Stadium and Mavuso Sports Centre which was imposed by CAF four years ago.
