Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Boy Child Matters Campaign continues to impact lives as 135 boys from Etjeni Primary School at Somntongo in Lavumisa received dignity packs on July 18.

The packs were handed over by Eswatini Observer and World Vision.

The campaign is an initiative by Eswatini Observer to raise awareness and to take care of the needs of the boy-child. It has been evident in the past that most campaigns have been targeted at the girl-child, resulting in the boy-child being neglected. The campaign was launched by Eswatini Observer in line with the International day of the boy-child, which is celebrated globally in May.

World Vision Cluster Manager, Sithembile Dlamini, appreciated the collaboration with Eswatini Observer as this synergy will help in reaching more children.

Dlamini told the boys that they loved them and to see them happy and would love to see them all grown up and heading some of the corporate entities in the country.

“We want to let you know that Eswatini Observer and World Vision loves you and you hold a special place in our hearts. With these items we want to show that we do not want to leave you behind,” they said.

She also highlighted the importance of focusing efforts on the boy-child as it is done with the girl-child, saying this may help to curb the rising social ills and acts of gender-based violence.

She encouraged the boys on the importance of education, so that they can grow up and be something to society, and also to bring change to the community. Speaking during the handover of the dignity packs, Etjeni Primary school head teacher, Lungile Mamba thanked Eswatini Observer for the initiative.

She further thanked World Vision for identifying the school in the initiative. She highlighted on the challenges that the school faces occasionally and how World Vision has been instrumental in helping over time.

Mamba highlighted that the boys in the school faced a lot of challenges which include the lack of basic needs. She said the packs will go a long way in assisting the boys as this was what they needed the most. The donated dignity packs included face towels, bath soap, toothpaste, tootbrushes, roll-on and underwear.
