Africa-Press – Eswatini. Prophet Vusi Dlamini, also known as ‘Major V,’ has said he did not show up for his celebrity boxing exhibition bout against bodybuilder Simanga Maziya because he respects His Majesty King Mswati III.

The bout was set for Eswatini International Trade Fair yesterday in a winner-takes-all competition, that would’ve seen the victor walk away with a E10 000 cash prize.

Major V took to his Facebook account to set the record straight as to why he didn’t show up as he apologised to his followers.

He cited a few reasons, which included that he did not want to fight against one of his majesty’s bodyguards, who happened to be Maziya saying he respected the King and did not want to be seen to be going against him.

“May I apologise to my followers for not showing up as I know a lot of you had come to see me in my bout. I did not go to Mavuso because I can’t fight against the King’s bodyguard. I respect the King and I had been promised a fight with Gedlembane, who is a comedian. I respect the King. I cannot fight with the King’s bodyguard,” he said.

The Mountain of Salvation Ministries founder Dlamini had been basking in the glory of his July triumph, where he won E5 000 after defeating the People’s United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO) member Mphandlana Shongwe. This was during the Eswatini Biggest Braai exhibition bout, where his victory earned him a spot in the Trade Fair bout to defend his title.

Eswatini Boxing Association (EBA) Secretary General Nkosinathi Dlamini said they waited for Dlamini from 3pm to 6pm and eventually cancelled the fight and gave Maziya a half prize of E5 000 for showing up.

“We are very sorry to all Emaswati who wanted this bout to happen. We are still looking for someone to face off with Simanga Maziya and win the E10 000. Doors are open to anyone interested, and they must indicate on EBA President Webster Lukhele’s Facebook platform,” he said.
