Africa-Press – Eswatini. After over a decade with no success in finding Gogo Emelinah Metfula (90) of Sinceni community under Siphofaneni Inkhundla, on Saturday over 100 family and community members buried her clothes to find closure.
According to former Nceka Umphakatsi Bucopho Nkosingiphile Masina, the elderly woman was reported missing in 2011. Masina said the matter was reported to the police but Gogo Metfula had not been found since the year she went missing. He stated that it was suspected that she could have been murdered as the police also failed to make a breakthrough in this matter. Masina said the Sinceni community was still shocked following that efforts were made to search for the missing elderly woman but were unsuccessful. “The Metfula family and members of the Nceka community on Saturday decided to bury the clothes of the missing elderly woman. She went missing in March 2011 and since then, she has not been found or traced,” he said.
However, Mfankhona Sibandze, a community member who attended the burial mentioned that the community had suspicions about certain individuals who might have been involved in her disappearance. Sibandze said after the elderly woman went missing, the community went to search for her in the mountains and bushes around the Sinceni community with no luck.
Disappearance
“I will make sure that I get to the bottom of this matter as something is amiss regarding the unfortunate disappearance of the elderly woman. According to information obtained after she went missing, people stopped the bus she was on board and led her to an unknown destination. It appears even the police were told to stop looking for her by powerful people in authority,” he claimed. A family member, Bhekumuzi Metfula said they resolved to bury the clothes of his grandmother to find closure on the matter. Bhekumuzi said his grandmother went to visit her maternal home at KaPhunga in March 2011. He said when she was returning home on board a bus, she never reached home. “We met as a family and resolved that we should bury her clothes as there has been no success in locating her whereabouts,” he said. Meanwhile, in 2021, an estimated 70-year-old elderly woman went missing at Velezizweni area under Mankayane. Takitsi Lukhele had no children and was staying alone at her homestead.
