Africa-Press – Eswatini. MBABANE Highlanders boss Chief Ally Kgomongwe is lucky to be alive after he survived a hijacking incident on Wednesday night. The Tshwane-based businessman nearly lost his life after thugs fired several gunshots onto his Mercedes C200 while driving along the Montana road, in South Africa just after passing through John Port tollgate at around 11pm.
Ally Kgomongwe escaped unharmed.
The car had its wheels damaged during the incident. Kgomongwe was caught in a crossfire at the scene, where he had the courage to fire back using his own gun towards the attackers, who fled the scene.
The flamboyant ‘Black Bull’ Director Kgomongwe said he was grateful to be alive when contacted on Thursday night.
“I thank God that I survived the hijacking by unknown criminals, who were attacking, and I thank the good Samaritans who came to my rescue. I have now taken the car to the garage. I don’t know the cause of the attack, as I am a peaceful person in my community. I am now communicating with the insurance company over the car repairs,” he said.
He further advised his friends from Eswatini to avoid travelling at night. “I would like to warn my friends, especially those from Eswatini who usually visit me to avoid travelling at night to prevent such attacks,” he said. Kgomongwe is in the fourth year in charge of the capital city giants since he took it over during the 2019/20 season. This was on a five-year contract. He also owns Motsepe Foundation League side Ally Tigers, who are a sister team to the ‘Black Bull’.

In his first season, he won the EswatiniTelecom Chairty Cup in 2019, earning the black and white ensemble E1.1 million and has also won the Bible Society Cup two times – in 2022 and 2023.
