Africa-Press – Eswatini. Despite undergoing renovations in a bid to host CAF and FIFA category ‘A’ matches, Sihlangu will not play World Cup Qualifiers at Somhlolo National Stadium.
CAF stands for the Confederation of African Football, while FIFA stands for the International Federation of Football Association. An impeccable source close to the matter revealed that the stadium, which was banned alongside the Mavuso Sports Centre, would not host such games for now until important additions were done. “Somhlolo National Stadium will only host Sitsebe games because they are not category A games. In order for Sihlangu to host games at Somhlolo, they have to put the score billboard screens, which are too expensive. Eswatini will not install these screens this year,” alleged the source. The source further said they would use Mbombela Stadium in South Africa or Zimpeto Stadium in Mozambique. Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Marketing and Communications Officer Muzi ‘Rhoo’Radebe confirmed that indeed that the country’s main football arena was out of bound.
Host
“Yes, Sihlangu will not host in Eswatini,” said Radebe briefly. The Dominic Kunene-led charges will face off with Bafana Bafana in an international friendly on October 13. The game will be played in South Africa as Bafana are the hosts, after the international friendly, they will then face Libya in the World Cup qualifiers in the November 13 and later on November 20 they will face Cape Verde. Both games are home games for Eswatini. Sihlangu will play two World Cup qualifiers games on June 3 and June 10, 2024 they will play Angola and Mauritius respectively.
