Africa-Press – Eswatini. The sky is the limit for Sphephelo Mabuza, popularly known as Didie Mxengu, as she has been signed under a South African agency called Mehlareng Actors and Performers.
The agency is one of the fast-growing performers agencies that was established in 2015 and officially started operating in 2016. It was established to give an opportunity for young, upcoming and talented artists to plant their seeds in the soil of the entertainment industry. From the dusty streets of Mafutseni, Didie Mxengu said she bagged the opportunity through a video she captured featuring the award-winning local poet Christian Maz. The uploaded video attracted one million views in three days. The talented actress shared that she was approached on social media. The agency gave her an offer she could not resist. The Television and Film graduate from Limkokwing University expressed her excitement. She said the opportunity completed her 2023 goal of being signed by a well-known agency. She went on to share her passion for being in front of the camera even though she studied being behind the scenes. “Acting has always been my passion. This is one of God’s answered prayers. With my behind the scenes experience, I am positive that my passion for being an actress will thrive,” she added.
Opportunities
Didie Mxengu also mentioned that being part of a well-known agency will open doors for her. She went on to advise other aspiring actors and actresses to consider looking for a top agency that will create opportunities. “I joined for the opportunities. Knowing that I have a professional team looking for gigs is a dream come true especially in South Africa,” she said. It is worth noting that the South African agency called Mehlareng Actors and Performers, on December 1, posted on their social media page congratulating and welcoming Didie Mxengu.
The renowned agency tagged their newly signed actress and social media was abuzz as locals congratulated Didie Mxengu. She will be part of several talented South African acts the likes of Bradlynn Smit, who is a charismatic South Africa born actress and all-round entertainer, has quite the long history with acting. Her experience in acting began at the early age of 12. In 2020 she worked with power duo, Gasela Brothers, on a feature film: Writer’s Room, landing a lead role.
Roles
She will also be among the likes of Lungile Radebe who is also a South African actor, speaker and voice over-artist. He is best known for his roles in the television series Mzansi Magic award-winning-telenovela at diepcity_mzansi, International Series The Widow, SABC 1 series Ingozi. Radebe was also part of Mzansi Magic TV Movies Ntwana Yam, Rose’s & Papers, Ingadi Yothando, Ke Emetse Mapetla and he was part of award winning Mandla N’s first Feature Film. In an interview with the award-winning poet Christian Maz, who has worked with Didie Mxengu, he also expressed his excitement. He said Didie Mxengu was the next international actress. He also said working with her was always bliss as she was a passion driven person full of creative ideas.
Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture Chief Executive Officer Stanley Dlamini also congratulated Didie Mxengu. He also shared that Eswatini was capable of improving the art sector as it was a home of true talent. “Through her talent, Eswatini will be recognised for its richness in the art sector. Her achievement might seem small to others but in the art world it is big,” he said. According to Krista Parkinson founder of Grads Get Jobs, when you work with a big agency, you’re exposed to really impressive industry leaders, projects, and businesses. This exposure teaches one that nothing is impossible.

Stage Milk an acting Scene club says it is important to be signed under an agency as it would take one person years to establish the relationships even a mid level agent has. “They are communicating with casting directors, directors and producers every day. Acting is all about connections. A good agent will be able to take advantage of their professional relationships to get you auditions, and work,” it reads. Didie Mxengu is not the first local talented creative to be signed under a well-known agency. Nolwazi ‘Snowee’ Simelane signed under a modelling agency by Clavon Designs from New York, US has given her the opportunity of hoisting country’s flag in different countries. Through her agency, she has recently graced the Seychelles fashion week.
