Africa-Press – Eswatini. Mbabane Swallows have been dealt another blow following the suspension of strong defender Newman Philiso, ahead of their crunch match against log leaders Green Mamba.
The two sides meet in a top-of-the-table clash at Mavuso Sports Centre tomorrow. The Sihlangu defender’s suspension comes barely a week after another setback involving dependable attacking midfielder Felix ‘Fela’ Badenhorst. The latter picked up a serious shoulder injury in the 1-0 win over Tambankulu Celtics in the Ingwenyama Cup Last 16 clash at Mayaluka Stadium in Big Bend, last Saturday. Philiso, on the other hand, has been nabbed by the Yellow card rule and he will miss his team’s next match, as per the MTN Premier League Rules and Regulations.
“In terms of Article 37.1 of the MTN Premier League 2023/24 Rules and Regulations, the player is, therefore, automatically suspended from participating in the next one match to be played by his team,” read the rules in part. Swallows are winless in over 180 minutes of football against Green Mamba in all competitions following back-to-back defeats. They lost 0-6 in the PLE Trade Fair Cup final before another 1-4 setback in the MTN Premier League 2023/24 season first round, late last year. Swallows Public Relations Officer Knowledge Ngwenya said he was still waiting for an update from the medical team on the fate of seasoned defender Sifiso Mabila, who was also out nursing an injury.
Meanwhile, Young Buffaloes will be minus Fanelo ‘Order’ Mamba when they face off with Illovo at KaLanga outside Siteki tomorrow. Notably, veteran defender Siboniso Ndzabandzaba will play no part for Illovo in that game. Katumba Henock of Ezulwini United, on the other hand, completes the fresh list of suspended players released by Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) yesterday. Players like Richard Ofusu and Innocent Pakule of Moneni Pirates as well as the likes of Qiniso Simelane and Menzi Khumalo from Malanti Chiefs and Ubombo Flyers, will get to serve their one match ban following their suspension last week. Their teams were not in action last week, as they were booted out in the first hurdle of the Ingwenyama Cup.
