Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini suffered a blow in its African Games campaign on Thursday.
This was after one of the karate athletes got eliminated. Karate began their journey on Thursday, ahead of the grand opening yesterday in Accra, Ghana. First to put some effort towards a podium finish was Lwazi Dlamini. Dlamini was drawn with Libya’s Mohammed Alsuwee, whom he lost 4-0 on points in the elimination stages of the tournament.
They faced each other in the 84kg during the lunch hour at the GMH Ga-Mashie Hall. Meanwhile, Melusi Dlamini was expected to face his opponent, who was yet to be revealed from other elimination matches of the tournament yesterday. The duo is under the guidance of Coach Victor Gwebu.
Karate, along with swimming, was also part of the inauguration of the 13th edition of the continental multi-sports showpiece. The swimming team includes Simanga Dlamini and Coach Welcome Nhlabatsi. Team Eswatini Chef de Mission Zakhele Zulu said the spirit was high among the athletes. Zulu said the athletes were eager to excel and bring home medals.
Others who joined the team in the grand opening event included the Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council (ESRC) Chief Executive Officer Darius Dlomo, Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) President Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa and CEO Maxwell Jele. while the General Team Manager Zama Tsabedze and Physiotherapist Nomvula Dlamini were already in Ghana.
