Africa-Press – Eswatini. In the current financial year, the Eswatini Competition Commission (ESCC) has received 60 consumer-related complaints, 55 of these complaints, valued at over E500 000, have been successfully resolved, translating to a 91 per cent case clearance rate.
This was revealed by the ESCC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Muzi Dlamini during the Tinkhundla Consumer Awareness Campaign launch held at the Hilton Garden Inn yesterday. Dlamini said the campaign will offer the Competition Commission and the Ombudsman of Financial Services an opportunity to collaborate towards empowering emaSwati from the communities with information relating to their mandates, powers and functions related to the protection of consumer rights. He said consumers will also have an opportunity to report their concerns to our officials who will be on the ground during the awareness sessions.

“During the Tinkhundla Awareness Campaign, we look forward to learning from one another as well as gaining valuable insights from the many consumers in Eswatini who shall be joining us at the tinkhundla centres,” he said. The Tinkhundla consumer protection awareness campaign is to be effected in four tinkhundla centers in the four regions of the Kingdom of Eswatini this week. The identified tinkhundla centres are Timphisini, Mafutseni, Nkwene and Matsanjeni North. Minister of Tinkhundla Administration and Development Sikhumbuzo Dlamini said this launch came just after the World Consumer Right Day which was commemorated globally on March 15, every year.
He said the ministry has high expectations for this first-ever regional awareness campaign and hopes that by the end of this exercise emaSwati at grassroots level and beneficiaries of the regional development fund will be empowered to clearly identify and understand their consumers, consumer rights, competition, anti-competitive trade practices, steps to be undertaken when their rights have been violated, ensuring products safety as well as registering complaints with the Eswatini Competition Commission.
