Africa-Press – Eswatini. Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has appreciated the Republic of China (Taiwan) on their support of different capital projects and initiatives.

He also congratulated the president and the people of Taiwan on carrying out successful elections.

He was speaking during a courtesy call to the Taiwan President Tsai Ing-Wen. Dlamini left the country on Sunday on an official State visit.

He emphasised that Eswatini remained grateful and committed to the pleasant realities of the Taiwan-Eswatini strategic partnership.

The PM cited the renovation of Mbabane Government Hospital’s Referral and Emergency Complex, women empowerment programme which he said continue to transform the lives of a huge population of women in Eswatini.

Dlamini also cited different projects under the Taiwan ICDF Technical Mission in Eswatini, which provided technical support to farmers, resulting in an upward gradient of food security in the kingdom and empowering the rural youth and women.

Adding, the PM said the rural electrification programme has helped bring electricity to the country’s most remote areas.

“There are also youth empowerment initiatives, fully-funded university scholarships awarded to Emaswati students to study in Taiwan, and the recently introduced Eswatini English teaching programme for Emaswati to teach English in Taiwan.

“Your support to Eswatini during the COVID-19 pandemic saved thousands of Emaswati and we forever remain appreciative to your meaningful and committed support. The Taipei Medical

University Hospital, the Central Epidemic Command Centre, and the Taiwan We Go Team had a salient role to play in Eswatini during those hard times, and we know it was out of your good heart,” he said.

He noted that the president will be exiting office soon. He said the president’s visit last September was a demonstration of the strong Taiwan-Eswatini relations.

He further noted that the president’s tenure was founded on unquestionable commitment to Eswatini’s socio-economic development, unequivocal support and tremendous contribution being a turning point in the country’s economy.

Dlamini added that he hoped his visit to Taiwan would provides yet another unique opportunity for Eswatini to reaffirm and deepen a commitment depicted by the happily existing diplomatic relations between the two countries.
