Africa-Press – Eswatini. Only his works as CEO will speak on Kenneth Makhanya’s behalf as his contract ends at the Premier League of Eswatini.
This comes as the PLE chief executive officer’s future is uncertain with the organisation because the Executive Committee decided not to renew Makhanya’s contract.
The seasoned football administrator has been caught up by the upcoming Premier League of Eswatini elections, as his two-year contract will be coming to an end on August 31. This is also the election year for the organisation.

The top-flight football entity is heading for elections where they will elect a new Executive Committee to be in charge of the football organisation for the next four years.
A source close to the matter revealed that the Exco had already informed Makhanya about the latest decision.
“We have informed the CEO about the decision. The Exco’s term of office ends at the end of this season, while the CEO’s contract also ends at the same time. Therefore, it would be irregular for the Exco to renew a contract when there is an incoming executive that may have different operational strategies to ours. They will have the responsibility to decide on a renewal or not. However, Makhanya has been very instrumental in carrying out our mandate to professionalise and put proper structures in the organisation, and is commended for his qualities,” said the source.
When reached, the vastly-experienced football administrator was brief and said, “My two-year contract ends on August 31, 2024. I informed my employer that I am happy to be engaged in respect of a renewal. The 2024 PLE Ordinary General Assembly (or AGM) is an elective one. The Exco that will be elected then will chart the way forward,” he said.
Makhanya joined the organisation in August 2022, where he replaced former FIFA-accredited referee Simanga Nhleko. He previously served in two South African sides, including DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns and Motsepe Foundation side Black Leopards. Makhanya is also the former chief executive officer of the Eswatini Football Association (EFA).
On another note, outgoing Chairman Mark Carmichael recently announced that he won’t contest for another term during the next elections.
