Africa-Press – Eswatini. Lydia Sijabulisile Dlamini, the Acting National Commissioner of Police and newly appointed member of the King’s Advisory Council, has been directed by the King to continue working as Acting Police National Commissioner until further notice.

This means, Dlamini will continue to head the police organization pending the appointment of the new Police National Commissioner during the upcoming Police Day.

“Officers of all ranks and Staff of the Royal Eswatini Service are notified for general information that, Ms Lydia Sijabulisile Dlamini, Senior Deputy National Commissioner of Police will continue in her role and position as the Acting National Commissioner of Police with immediate effect until otherwise directed by His Majesty The King and National Commissioner-in-Chief of the Royal Eswatini Police Service”, reads a memo in part, directed to all police officers, the memo is dated 29th May 2024.

Senior Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, the Police Spokesperson had not responded at the time of compiling this report.

The Acting National Commissioner of Police was appointed by the King as a new member of the King’s Advisory Council about two(2) weeks ago.

But a power struggle and confusion subsequently erupted within the organization’s Executive Command as the new Acting Police National Commissioner was not immediately announced by the King thus creating a leadership vacuum.

In the midst of the confusion, Senior Deputy National Commissioner Sula Dlamini was seen attending and addressing police events without a formal appointment by the King as Acting National Commissioner.

It is alleged that, amid the confusion, a confirmation was then sought from the King to clarify if Sula Dlamini was the new Acting Commissioner.

But the King ordered that, Lydia Dlamini must continue to act in the position pending the announcement of the new Police National Commissioner.
