Africa-Press – Eswatini. JABULILE School has unveiled a sports arena worth E2.5 million that will come as a huge relief to other schools, teams and members of the public.
This event happened at the school premises in Nkoyoyo yesterday.
The state-of-the-art facility comprises a half Olympic swimming pool, with its construction costing E1.5 million and a multi-purpose outdoor court, which cost E1.2 million.
This was revealed by Jabulile School Board of Governors Chairman Masotsha Mabuza during the official opening of the facility, graced by Minister of Tinkhundla Administration and Development Sikhumbuzo Dlamini, who stood Minister of Education and Training Owen Nxumalo.
Also present were Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Director Lucky Sihlongonyane and other government officials.
When making remarks during the event, Dlamini said this was not just a celebration of the new facility, but a testament of their commitment to holistic education, combining academic excellence with physical development.
“The opening of this sports complex marks the beginning of many future sports events at Jabulile School.
We have a vision of hosting inter-schools competitions, regional tournaments and community sports days that will bring together pupils’ families and the broader community. Such events will not only provide our pupils with platforms to showcase their talents but also strengthen community bonds with the area of Nkoyoyo.”
Mabuza further stated that they were grateful to all those who contributed to making the vision a reality, including the board, dedicated teachers, supportive parents and their learners.
“As we celebrate the opening of the first phase, let us look forward with hope and determination to the completion of the entire sports complex.
ambitious
Together we can achieve great things in nurturing the future, which embodies the values of Jabulile School.
Looking ahead, the second phase of our sports complex is an ambitious project that will require further support and sponsorship by God’s grace,” he said.
Sihlongonyane, on behalf of Minister of Sport, Culture and Youth Affairs Bongani Nzima, said progress made in completing the half-size Olympic pool, as well as the multi-purpose court was testament of the unity that had been championed by all stakeholders towards achieving the shared goal of developing the school and making it a leading centre of learning and development for young people.
“As a ministry, one of our key objectives is to get the entire nation physically active and playing sport, as a means to promote healthy living among our people. I have been pleased to learn that this is the same driving force behind Jabulile’s massive investment in sport education and infrastructure.
I have learnt with delight that sport is compulsory here and this is the way we should move forward as a country.
There can never be a better time than now to plant this message of healthy living through sport to our young people. However, for this to adequately happen, we must invest in standard infrastructure and provide opportunities for our people to play a variety of sports from a young age.”
Sihlongonyane added that pupils should make sure they used the complex to their advantage and improve their skills.
“I now encourage you, as pupils, to make good use of the opportunities availed to you here at the school. While you must prioritise your studies, do also give sport a chance and four years from now, you could be representing the country in the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, just as 16-year-old Hayley Hoy is currently doing in Paris.
I take this moment to now commend the school for also investing in educating the pupils,” he said.
