Africa-Press – Eswatini. As excitement builds for the 18th edition of the MTN Bushfire Festival, scheduled for May 31 to June 1, 2025, the Minister of Sports, Youth, Art, and Culture, Bongani Nzima, shared his insights about one of the most globally recognized festivals in the world.
In an exclusive interview, Nzima emphasized the festival’s significance, stating, “The MTN Bushfire Festival is a prime event in the Kingdom of Eswatini, recognized not only by the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture (ENCAC) but by the whole world at large. We expect tourism to blossom, local businesses to boom, and more fire from the youth performances.”
Beyond mere entertainment, the festival serves as a catalyst for social change. The hashtag #BRINGYOURFIRE embodies the spirit of collective involvement in promoting positive transformation. Nzima noted, “Festivals and the creative sectors at large are the largest employers of our youth and artists, and the MTN Bushfire Festival continues to prove true to that.”
Renowned for its eclectic programming, the MTN Bushfire Festival features multiple stages, including the Main Stage House On Fire Amphitheatre, and the Ballantine’s Firefly Stage. Nzima expressed pride in the planned activities and programs surrounding the festival, which showcase a rich tapestry of talent with performances from artists across Africa and beyond.
Since its inception in 2007, the MTN Bushfire Festival has evolved into one of Eswatini’s premier cultural events, earning recognition not just within the Kingdom but across Southern Africa for its focus on social and environmental issues. Founded by the Thorne brothers, Jiggs and Sholto Thorne*, the festival originated from the vibrant House On Fire entertainment venue, aimed at creating a platform for artists while addressing significant social challenges.
At its core, the festival is dedicated to nurturing the arts, promoting social responsibility, and stimulating local economic growth. This mission has attracted a diverse audience, drawing talent and tourists from around the globe to the stunning landscapes of Eswatini.
As the MTN Bushfire Festival approaches, anticipation builds for what promises to be another unforgettable celebration of culture, creativity, and community spirit. With its unique blend of entertainment and activism, the festival is set to continue inspiring and uplifting both artists and audiences alike, leaving a lasting impact on the region.
