Africa-Press – Eswatini. Siphesihle Dlamini is proving that big changes can start with small, simple steps. At just a young age, he is building a successful business, Opulento Farms, by turning beekeeping into an eco-friendly enterprise that not only produces pure honey but also supports sustainability and community growth.
Siphesihle was drawn to beekeeping because it is affordable to start and environmentally friendly. “Beekeeping helps reduce carbon and protect nature,” he said. He began with wild honey harvesting, which helped cut down on startup costs. He has since added bee boxes to better manage and care for the bees.
Like many young business owners, he faced challenges at the start. In 2023, without access to funding, he used money his aunt had given him to grow beans and instead invested it in beekeeping tools. That brave decision became the foundation of Opulento Farms.
Today, the business is slowly gaining support. Siphesihle says customers love the honey, and only one has ever complained it was too sweet. Though he doesn’t yet have a shop, he takes orders by phone and delivers the honey directly. He also markets the product on social media, where the business continues to grow.
To ensure high quality, Opulento Farms follows good agricultural practices. They use clean white buckets, wear proper beekeeping gear, and package honey in glass jars. All bottles are washed before use, and the workspace is kept spotless. When buying honey from others, Siphesihle checks that the farmers follow the same clean standards.
His advice to young people is simple, don’t overlook agriculture. “Even if you don’t want to keep bees, you can make beehive boxes or do something else that supports the industry,” he said. Looking ahead, Siphesihle wants to grow Opulento Farms into a bigger business that creates jobs, supports local farmers, and continues to protect the environment.
