Africa-Press – Eswatini. Government officials, business leaders and stakeholders gathered today at Happy Valley Hotel for a consultative workshop aimed at developing regulations for the Royal Science and Technology Park (RSTP).
Nqoba Msibi, Director of the Eswatini National Archives, representing Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology, emphasized that the Park is a pivotal step toward creating a modern, knowledge based economy in Eswatini. “This is an important step to build an innovative country, the park will help us grow ideas, support businesses and meet development goals,”Msibi stated.
The RSTP is envisioned not just as a physical structure but as a vibrant center for technology, learning, and entrepreneurship. It aligns with the SADC Industrialization Strategy and the 2018 Special Economic Zone plan, focusing on job creation, particularly for the youth, and fostering local business development. Mr. Msibi highlighted the significance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced technologies, noting that the Data Centre and High-Performance Computer at the Park will facilitate high-level research and innovation. He pointed out that strong infrastructure, including fast internet and reliable electricity, is essential for the Park’s success.
The workshop aimed to initiate the drafting of regulations that will guide the Park’s operations, covering aspects such as licensing, innovation support, and investor protection. “Your ideas will help shape the future of the Park,” Mr. Msibi remarked, urging collective effort for the success of the Park and Eswatini’s digital future. He concluded with a quote from Lao Tzu: “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.”
Dr. Thabiso Sacolo, Executive Director of ESEPARC, also addressed the attendees, emphasizing the importance of the regulatory framework being developed. He described it as the foundation upon which Eswatini’s future innovation capacity will be built. Dr. Sacolo elaborated on the potential of the RSTP to accelerate economic diversification and growth, create high-value employment opportunities, enhance national competitiveness, and develop solutions to pressing societal challenges. Furthermore, he expressed optimism about positioning Eswatini as a regional hub for innovation and technological advancement.
Together, these insights underscore the collaborative spirit and strategic vision driving the development of the Royal Science and Technology Park, marking a significant milestone in Eswatini’s journey toward a more innovative and prosperous future.
