A Comprehensive Mental Health Perspective

Africa-Press – Eswatini. With everything we have going on these days, it is evident that our mental health is constantly ‘under attack’ and placed under the most pressure more often than not. From personal stories to stories that thoroughly rock the inner most core of our existence, we are learning that the pressure is getting to many and not only is it that, it is somewhat clear that many more people struggle to find ways to manage, cope and process the kind of mental exertion they may find themselves under.

Financial insufficiencies have made their way into relationships thus causing rifts and aggression among couples; anger and resentment have been incredibly mismanaged hence we see so much violence that has morphed from what began as a loving relationship. Our children are seeking solace in places they probably should not be; in drugs and gangsterism, a path that is leading them down an unforgiving ‘rabbit hole.’

Inasmuch as it is an uncomfortable fact, it is a truth that we are succumbing to the various mental and psychological pressures in different ways; with some being distinctly more severe than others. Across all age and social groups, every individual is ‘at war’ with themselves, with each day proving a sterner psycho-emotional test than the previous.

Influential

Factoring in other variables such as background and the social environment that individual may be in, it does make for a grim prognosis, especially if both those factors are negatively influential on that particular person’s life. Since we are all different, our individualities sort of dictate that we cannot have one ‘textbook’ defined way of managing our mental health, however, we do have the option to learn how to. The relevance and importance of our mental health is often lost in its complex, non-physical nature and because of this, it is quite often overlooked and misinterpreted as something else.

This is actually where many ‘lives are lost’ because many people discover that others around them cannot comprehend the exact state they might be in and consequently struggle to get the message of their malaise across. This is where we need to learn to do and act better as family, as friends or co-workers; be more supportive, less judgemental and 100 per cent willing to give an ear to whoever needs one.

Assume

Also, we as individuals need to better; by that I mean we need to assume more responsibility for our mental health. Be selective of what you invest your emotional energy into, keep up with activities that bring out a better mood out of you, find a stable level of communication with those you are in relationships with and make sure that that person is willing to reciprocate that same level of commitment and respect. Sometimes, our mental health is put in disarray by the fact that our feelings and thoughts are not as validated as we would like and that (sometimes) tends to breed feelings of inadequacy and frustration in many ways.

Finally, our mental health is a built-in feature of our lives, therefore, it demands that we constantly monitor, constantly heal as well as steadily ‘feed’ it with the necessary positive tools for it to develop, to solidify and boost its capabilities to sustain us with every passing day.
