Africa-Press – Eswatini. The green Lifestyle Festival will now be a monthly event.
This was confirmed by Kitsi’s Melusi ‘Zox’ Dlamini at the festival’s launch, held at the Legends Backpacker Lodge yesterday.
Dlamini shared that the annual event would take place from October 1, and would then take place every first Saturday of the month. Kitsi’s Sandziso ‘Sands’ Matsebula will headline the event. The singer is also the ambassador for the festival. Sands said the World Environment Day was commemorated every year on June 5 globally, and was a day to spread awareness about the environment and the need to conserve it.
“Moreover, it is essential to advocate for a greener environment and conservation of nature. It is quite simple as when we conserve the environment today, the future generations will be able to lead a healthier life. We cannot be so selfish and use up all the resources for ourselves. World Environment Day is the perfect opportunity to make people aware of the issues we are facing and how one can contribute to saving it. Thus, it is quite important in its own way,” he said.
He explained that World Environment Day reminded people to strengthen the world and ensure that nature was preserved at all costs. It throws light on the causes of serious harm to the environment. For instance, industries and factories are contributing largely to pollution. They are deteriorating the quality of air and the water.
“Thus, this day serves as an eye-opener for many citizens who aren’t aware of all this. In other words, it spreads awareness amongst the common people about what the environment is facing right now. Moreover, it also encourages the public from different societies and communities to take active participation in celebrating the day,” Sands said. The Ezulwini Green Lifestyle concept is a not-for-profit event created to inspire locals to work green, play green and live green. It is an affair curated for people to come together once a month to learn how to live healthier, more sustainable lives.
conjoin
Dlamini further explained that the event would provide a platform for Eswatini eco-businesses to conjoin and display green products and services. Through this concept, consumers and businesses connect, build awareness and strengthen relationships in an expansive and engaging green marketplace. The Green Lifestyle concept targets businesses and consumers who share a passion for art, environmental awareness and sustainable living.
Their mission is to harness the economic power of consumers, businesses and the market-place to create a socially and environmentally sustainable culture by the hosting of Green Lifestyle Festival at Legends SHARED (previously known as Legends Backpacker Lodge) in Ezulwini.
“We are confident that our holistic approach will reach thousands of locals eventually and inspire the youth in green careers,” Dlamini said. Guest speaker Lobamba MP Allen Stewart said, “On the occasion of World Environment Day, as we launch the green Lifestyle events series, it is essential for all of us, to realise that every little deed matters when it comes to saving the environment.
No matter how small a step you are taking to lead a greener lifestyle, it does make a difference. If everyone starts doing little deeds one by one, it will turn into something big,” he said. He wished the team at Ekhaya Kitsi and the Green Lifestyle Events series all the best.
