Africa-Press – Eswatini. The recently rebranded OncAura Wellness Centre, formerly Swaziland Radiology Services, has launched a month long corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative offering free screenings for breast, cervical, and prostate cancer. Targeting 300 pensioners across the nation, the campaign, which began on June 2, is valued at an estimated E600 000 and aims to address the alarming rate of late stage cancer diagnoses in the country.
In a statement, OncAura Wellness Centre Managing Director Dr. Mbongeni Dlamini, emphasised the urgency of the initiative. “Cancer is a silent killer in Eswatini, claiming lives because of delayed detection. Eswatini has the highest global incidence of cervical cancer, with an estimated incidence rate of 84.5 per 100 000 female population,” revealed Dr Dlamini.
He stated that the campaign aimed to screen up to 300 pensioners, with a focus on breast, cervical, and prostate cancer. “Our goal is to ensure early detection is within reach for those who need it most. This initiative goes beyond medical care , it is a reminder to families to prioritise the health and well being of their elderly relatives,” he said.
The screenings, available to members of the Eswatini Civil Service Pensioners Association and other elderly citizens, are conducted at OncAura Wellness Centre, located at Philani Clinic in Manzini. Operating weekdays from 8 am to 4 pm the process is designed to be simple and quick, alleviating fears about complex medical procedures.
Dr Dlamini explained that many people avoid screenings because of misconceptions about pain or complexity. He said the process had been simplified to make it quick, comfortable, and handled by trusted professionals, helping pensioners feel more at ease.
Eswatini faces significant challenges in cancer care, with limited access to medical facilities and financial barriers preventing early diagnosis. The elderly, often overlooked in healthcare outreach, are particularly vulnerable. OncAura’s campaign seeks to bridge this gap by bringing high-quality medical services directly to communities.
Highlighting the vital role of older citizens, Dr Dlamini stressed that ensuring their health is a collective responsibility. He appealed to families to support and encourage their elderly loved ones to take full advantage of the screening services being offered.
Beyond encouraging attendance, the initiative also aims to break down misconceptions about cancer screening and build a culture of early detection. By concentrating on breast, cervical, and prostate cancer, three of the most prevalent types — OncAura is tackling diseases that have significantly higher survival rates when caught early.
The OncAura medical team and specialists are eager to welcome pensioners throughout the month of June, offering support in a caring and professional manner that reflects the centre’s mission of delivering healthcare in a friendly and welcoming environment.
The facility is now fully equipped with both the technical expertise and advanced technology to screen for all types of cancer. In addition to serving pensioners, it is now open to paying clients, with services available for the early detection of common cancers such as cervical, prostate, breast, colorectal, and lung cancer.
