Africa-Press – Eswatini. Over 2 500 people across 504 homesteads in Ntfonjeni and Timphisini have received emergency food parcels as part of a drought response campaign led by the Eswatini Red Cross Society.

The food distribution, which brought much-needed relief to families battling hunger and poverty, was made possible through a donation by World Vision Taiwan to the Government of Eswatini.

Beneficiaries in Ndlalambi kaHhohho under Timphisini Inkhundla and KuHhelehhele under Ntfonjeni Inkhundla received boxes packed with essential food items to ease the burden of food insecurity.

Celani Malaza, Field Officer at the Eswatini Red Cross, confirmed that a total of 2 560 individuals benefited from the initiative. “Ndlalambi was the first community to receive parcels in Timphisini, while KuHhelehhele was the last stop under Ntfonjeni.

The turnout has been overwhelming, even unregistered residents have shown up. This shows just how urgent the need is,” Malaza said.

At Ndlalambi Umphakatsi, Liaison Officer Sam Mbukwane praised His Majesty King Mswati III for the ongoing support.

“We are grateful that the King continues to remember his people. With low rainfall and dry fields, families here are unable to farm and are forced to buy food, which is not sustainable for many,” he said.

For Fana Maphanga, a community leader from eMvusweni kaHhohho, the food assistance came at a time when many were losing hope.

“Young people are sitting at home unemployed. The water shortage has made it nearly impossible to start any small ventures. These food parcels will restore dignity and bring relief to households struggling to put meals on the table,” he said.

Khanyisile Mamba, a Rural Health Motivator, said elderly residents were among the hardest hit.

“Most of the sick elderly people in our area have been taking medication on empty stomachs. This food will help them recover their strength and ensure they take their pills properly,” she said.

The Red Cross team said distributions are part of an ongoing campaign targeting drought-stricken communities across Eswatini.

As the dry spell tightens its grip, stakeholders have urged continued support to prevent further suffering in vulnerable areas.
