TOURISM SOARS: ESWATINI WELCOMES OVER 97K VISITORS IN JUNE

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini’s tourism industry has recorded a major milestone, welcoming 97 745 visitors in June 2025.

This figure represents a notable 16.4% increase compared to the same period last year, signaling renewed international interest and regional confidence in the Kingdom as a preferred travel destination.

According to the latest Monthly Tourism Statistical Release from the Eswatini Tourism Authority, the rise in tourist numbers reflects both the strength of regional travel and the country’s growing global appeal.

Southern Africa remains Eswatini’s tourism backbone, with South Africa leading the regional markets. A total of 63 337 South African tourists entered the country in June, reflecting a 9.6% year-on-year increase. Mozambique followed with a remarkable 39.2% rise in visitors (17 456), while Zimbabwe showed an encouraging 18.8% growth (4 908 arrivals).

“These numbers are more than just statistics, they tell a story of strengthened regional integration and the Kingdom’s expanding tourism offerings,” said a tourism expert.

Emerging and Overseas Markets Show Promise

The Kingdom is also making headway in attracting visitors from newer and overseas markets. Malawi, Lesotho, and Botswana have been identified as top emerging markets, showing rising interest in Eswatini’s cultural and eco-tourism.

On the international front, the United Kingdom saw a major uptick, with a 29.7% increase in visitors. While the USA and France showed slight declines of 5.0% and 1.1% respectively, the strong UK performance and growing African markets help balance the overseas figures.

More Nights, More Experiences

Visitors to Eswatini stayed for an average of 2.04 nights in June, another positive indicator suggesting that tourists are not just passing through but choosing to immerse themselves in the Kingdom’s scenic landscapes, warm hospitality, and unique cultural experiences.

A Bright Horizon Ahead

The increase in arrivals is a testament to the Kingdom’s targeted marketing efforts, regional partnerships, and improved accessibility. It also reinforces Eswatini’s reputation as a safe, welcoming, and vibrant destination with much to offer, from rich traditions to adventure-filled eco-tourism.

As tourism continues its upward trajectory, stakeholders remain optimistic that Eswatini’s sustained efforts will further diversify its visitor base and fuel local economic growth.
