Africa-Press – Eswatini. The community of Mphini under Ngudzeni Inkhundla will now enjoy clean and reliable water following the launch of a solar-powered water supply system, funded through a E2 million project.
The project was officially opened on July 16, 2025, and is set to benefit 199 households. The newly rehabilitated solar water pump replaces an older electric pump to reduce electricity costs and promote sustainability.
Constructed by Mgcabho Construction with funding and technical support from Microprojects, the project includes a 2 300-meter pipeline connected to the reservoir and 42 strategically placed water taps. The system delivers up to 70 000 litres of water daily and is expected to last for more than 20 years.
Speaking during the handover, Makhosi Dlamini from Microprojects advised residents on the proper usage and care of the system. He discouraged washing clothes near the taps and warned against using the supply to fill large storage tanks, which could overwhelm the system.
Dlamini commended the community for organising a water collection schedule. Each household is allowed to fetch five buckets in the morning (7:00 AM – 10:00 AM) and another five in the evening (4:00 PM – 7:00 PM), totalling 10 buckets per day.
To ensure sustainability, households contribute E10 monthly to a maintenance fund, which has already grown to over E13 000.
Ngudzeni Member of Parliament, Hon. Charles M. Ndlovu, praised the project’s successful implementation and thanked the community for their strong cooperation with stakeholders.
