Africa-Press – Eswatini. Autism Eswatini will host a fundraising golf tournament on September 22, 2025, at Ubombo Country Club to raise funds for therapeutic services benefiting 255 children and individuals with autism and intellectual disabilities across Eswatini.
The event aims to raise funds to improve access to therapeutic services for 255 children and individuals living with autism and intellectual disabilities across various communities in Eswatini.
Proceeds from the tournament will support the development of the One-Stop Centre for Autism, as well as cover operational needs for Autism Eswatini’s ongoing service delivery programmes.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is the fastest-growing developmental disability in the world, affecting an estimated 67 million people globally. In Eswatini, the first autism survey in the Lubombo region revealed a prevalence rate of 1 in 6 individuals (16.7%) living with ASD.
The study highlighted major challenges in accessing education, healthcare, therapy, and specialized services particularly sexual and reproductive health care for individuals with autism.
ASD is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by difficulties in social communication, restricted interests, and repetitive behaviours. Common signs include delayed speech, social interaction challenges, sensory sensitivities, intense focus, and repetitive movements.
Experts emphasize that early diagnosis and intervention are critical for helping individuals with ASD reach their full potential.
Autism Eswatini, also known as Litsemba Lemliba Support Centre, is a nonprofit organization that supports children, individuals, and families affected by autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders in Eswatini.
