Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini took centre stage at the African Union’s 1291st Peace and Security Council (PSC) Meeting held virtually on July 24, 2025, to deliberate on the ongoing situation in Libya.

Represented by Her Excellency Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla, the Kingdom of Eswatini reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to peace, stability, and reconciliation in Africa.

The high-level meeting, chaired by Ugandan President H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, brought together heads of state, foreign ministers, and top diplomats under one purpose: to advance sustainable peace in Libya. The meeting followed the February signing of the Libyan National Reconciliation Charter and aimed to evaluate progress while reinforcing AU-led efforts toward a united Libya.

Speaking on behalf of His Majesty King Mswati III, DPM Dladla delivered a powerful message of unity and hope. “We gather here today not simply to assess a crisis, but to honour our responsibility to a brotherly nation,” she said, echoing His Majesty’s heartfelt concern for Libya’s prolonged instability.

The Kingdom of Eswatini hailed the African Union’s role, particularly that of H.E. President Denis Sassou N’Guesso, Chairperson of the AU High-Level Committee on Libya, for his leadership in facilitating peace dialogues. Eswatini emphasized that solutions to Libya’s challenges must emerge from within the country, with strong support from the continent.

The statement by Eswatini outlined clear calls to action:

• Respect and uphold the 2020 ceasefire agreement;

• Advance preparations for free, fair, and credible elections;

• Broaden the reconciliation process to include civil society, youth, women, and traditional leaders;

• Revitalize the Tripartite Task Force on Migration to address the plight of African migrants in Libya.

DPM Dladla joined a distinguished panel of speakers that included heads of state and foreign affairs ministers from Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Angola, Sierra Leone, Algeria, and Egypt, among others.

The virtual summit was both reflective and forward-looking, concluding with President Museveni’s call for unity: “Let us move with courage, clarity, and unity, for Libya, for Africa, and for the generations yet to come.”

The Kingdom of Eswatini’s active participation not only highlighted its moral leadership on the continent but also demonstrated its belief in African solutions for African challenges. As the world watches, Eswatini continues to inspire hope for a peaceful, prosperous, and united Africa.
