John Wesley Primary Receives E524,000 Toilet Funding

Africa-Press – Eswatini. John Wesley Primary School has received new sanitation facilities through a collaborative project implemented by Mbabane East Inkhundla, the Regional Development Fund (RDF), and Micro-Project Eswatini, which delivered toilets worth E524 000 to address the school’s long-standing lack of proper sanitation.

The newly constructed toilets mark a major improvement for the school, which had gone years without proper toilet facilities. The project has been met with immense gratitude from school leadership, government officials, and learners.

Additionally, ramps costing 50 000 were built to ensure easy and safe access to the toilets for learners with disabilities, the elderly, and those with mobility challenges. Ramps are gently sloped pathways that replace stairs, making it possible for wheelchair users to use the facilities comfortably and independently.

Headteacher Gamedze expressed heartfelt appreciation for the intervention, saying, “I didn’t expect this, and I am more than happy. We thank Mbabane East Inkhundla and Micro-Project for this generous initiative.” He also said he will ensure that the young learners do not damage the modern toilets, as their curiosity and eagerness to explore might sometimes lead to accidental damage.

Representing the Regional Education Office, Nsizwa Dlamini highlighted the importance of the project in meeting national education standards:“According to the standards of the Ministry of Education, there are seven pillars , and one of them is water and sanitation, which includes toilets. I am very grateful. I thank the Mbabane East Inkhundla and Micro-Project because they came to our rescue. Our efforts alone had failed.”

Dlamini further noted that the school was previously at risk of closure due to the lack of sanitation facilities, underscoring the urgency and impact of the project.Indvuna Yenkhundla Phindile Maziya also extended gratitude, commending both Micro-Project and the contractors, “We sincerely thank Micro-Project and the contractors for making this possible.”

In a touching moment, a student confidently addressed the guests, representing her peers with emotion and pride,“Today I stand here with immense gratitude on this significant milestone in our school journey. On behalf of the students, I would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the Micro-Project Programme for building our new toilets. Your dedication in improving our school’s environment means so much to us.”

This E524 000 project marks a turning point for John Wesley Primary, ensuring a safe, clean, and dignified environment for learners and staff. It stands as a strong example of how collaboration between local government structures and development partners can directly uplift schools and communities.
