Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Mater Dolorosa Ex-Students Association (MDESA) will re-launch with a PROM and gala dinner at Sibebe Resort from 27 to 28 September 2025, starting at 7 pm, to reunite former students and raise funds to improve learning conditions and student welfare. This was announced, 12 August 2025, by Interim Chairperson Fikile Mbuli during a press conference at Mater Dolorosa High School in Mbabane.
The association, formed in 2017, was created by former students to support the school in meeting its needs and enhancing the welfare of learners. Mbuli explained that while the 2017 launch was historic and successful, many alumni were unaware of it and could not attend. “We decided to host a re-launch for the benefit of those who missed out in 2017 so that everyone has the chance to be part of something memorable,” she said.
Since its establishment, MDESA has made significant contributions to the school, including tiling the science laboratories, donating COVID-19 protective equipment such as sanitizers, masks, and other supplies for students and teachers, as well as recognizing top-performing Form 3 and Form 5 learners through awards.
The upcoming event will feature a buffet dinner, entertainment, and a “safe sleepover” programme to protect guests from road accidents, given the challenging and dangerous route from Sibebe Resort at night. Accommodation packages are priced at E980 per person sharing, E1 280 for a single room, and E1 960 for a double room. All packages include dinner, accommodation, breakfast, and entertainment.
Transport will be provided by Sibebe Resort at E50 per trip, with pick-up points to be confirmed. Payments can be made via MoMo, eWallet, Unayo, or Nedbank Send Money to 76171006. Space is limited and attendance will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Mbuli said the committee hopes to attract mainly alumni from the 2000s era to join the association and take part in future projects. For further information, interested former students can contact her at 76085770 or Hlengiwe Langa at 76171006.
