Africa-Press – Eswatini. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has launched its Country Programme Document (CPD) for Eswatini for 2026-2030, following its approval by the joint UNDP, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) Executive Board in New York in August, 2025.
This approval clears the way for Eswatini to implement a transformative five-year strategy aimed at sustainable development and inclusive growth.
Developed through extensive consultations and lessons learned from past programmes, the CPD aligns with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the African Union Agenda 2063.
It supports national priorities outlined in Eswatini’s National Development Plan while contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) through two main priorities:
.Good governance and social cohesion
.Sustainable and resilient economic development
The CPD sets clear targets to improve the lives of Eswatini’s citizens by 2030:
.Justice for All: At least 50 per cent of people interacting with the justice system, including vulnerable communities, will have access to fair, fast, and affordable justice through small claims courts, legal aid, and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
.Digital Public Services: At least 25 per cent of the population will have reliable access to essential services such as justice, healthcare, economic opportunities, and business support through digital platforms.
.Economic Growth and Jobs: The programme aims to create 5 000 direct jobs and support 25 000 sustainable livelihoods for youth, while driving annual economic growth above 4 per cent.
.Clean Energy and Biodiversity: The initiative seeks to secure at least $10 million in biodiversity finance and expand renewable energy capacity by 4MW, engaging both public and private sectors.
.Stronger Public Finance: Domestic revenue mobilisation is expected to increase by 3 per cent of GDP, fiscal space will expand by 5 per cent, and governance and transparency in public and local resource use will be enhanced.
This five-year strategy reflects a strong partnership between Eswatini and the United Nations, aiming to build a fairer, greener, and more prosperous nation for all citizens.
