Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Planning and Budgeting Committee launched the Budget to the People initiative in the Manzini Region. The committee is made up of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, and the Ministry of Public Service.

The Minister of Economic Planning and Development, Dr Thambo Gina, officially opened the national budget consultations. He explained that the consultations aim to sensitise bucopho and tindvuna tetinkhundla on the formulation of the national budget and how best the budget can be implemented for the benefit of Emaswati.

The session brought together Members of Parliament, tindvuna tetinkhundla, bucopho, community developers, and the Regional Administrator.

The initiative was introduced following a request at Sibaya for government to bring the budget closer to the people. It seeks to educate Emaswati on how the national budget is developed, how resources are allocated, and how communities can engage on priorities through existing structures such as bucopho, tindvuna tetinkhundla, Members of Parliament, and the Ministry of Tinkhundla.

By holding consultations across the regions, government provides a platform for open dialogue and awareness. This approach helps strengthen transparency and ensures that communities understand the processes behind national development planning.

The Budget to the People programme also encourages citizens to take an active interest in governance issues. When communities are informed, they are better positioned to make meaningful contributions to local and national priorities.

In summary, the Budget to the People initiative is designed to bridge the gap between government and citizens by making the national budget process more accessible, participatory, and responsive to community needs.
