Africa-Press – Eswatini. The National Agricultural Marketing Board (NAMBoard) has announced new measures to regulate the importation of sugar beans into Eswatini, effective September 22, 2025.
According to the Trade restriction notes released on September 12, 2025 by NAMBoard, this move comes as a result of a significant increase in local sugar bean production, a success driven by the recent relaunch of the Horticulture Revolving Fund.
The fund, in partnership with the National Maize Corporation (NMC) and supported by development partners and the private sector, has helped boost production of key commodities such as maize and sugar beans.
Following an assessment by the Ministry of Agriculture, NMC, and NAMBoard, it was confirmed that domestic sugar bean production now exceeds national demand. This positive development enables the country to prioritize locally grown beans, while maintaining a stable market for farmers.
The restriction, which completely limits the importation of sugar beans, will be closely monitored to ensure that supply meets demand. NAMBoard has assured the public that the restriction will be reviewed immediately if local production drops below required levels, avoiding any potential shortages.

This initiative underscores Eswatini’s growing self-sufficiency in agriculture and highlights the success of strategic investments in local farming.
