ESWATINI SENDS 32 POLICE OFFICERS FOR PEACE IN SOMALIA

Africa-Press – Eswatini. A proud moment unfolded at Ngonini’s Operational Support Services Unit (OSSU) as 32 Royal Eswatini police officers bid farewell to their homeland, embarking on a noble mission of peacekeeping in Somalia.

After weeks of rigorous Pre-Deployment Training (PPDT), the officers, now designated as Individual Police Officers (IPOs), are ready to serve under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission (AUSSOM) in Mogadishu. Their assignment is clear: to help restore stability, protect civilians, and strengthen the rule of law in one of Africa’s most challenging environments.

National Commissioner of Police, Manoma Vusie Masango, reminded the departing officers of the responsibility they carry as representatives of Eswatini. He urged them to uphold discipline, professionalism, and integrity while ensuring their work aligns with International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and International Human Rights Law (IHRL).

“You have shown a strong commitment to peace and security across the continent. Go with humility, courage, and a determination to serve the African people. Your safety and discipline will remain our highest priority,” Masango said.

The deployment forms part of Eswatini’s wider contribution to African Union Peace Support Operations (PSOs). Through this, the kingdom reinforces its dedication to the Rule of Law (RoL) and the protection of human rights beyond its borders.

The training, which covered operational readiness and civilian protection, equips the officers to face the complexities of conflict-affected areas. Their departure highlights Eswatini’s growing role in regional stability and international cooperation, a gesture of solidarity with fellow African states in pursuit of peace.
