Africa-Press – Eswatini. The courtroom came alive with the laughter and curiosity of young learners as Grade 5 pupils from The Little School Primary explored the workings of justice first-hand.

The eye-opening visit to the Mbabane Magistrates Court took place on October 27, 2025, giving the pupils a glimpse into the careers that shape society. Accompanied by their teacher, Edlyn Manzinde, the pupils were hosted by Mbabane Principal Magistrate Fikile Nhlabatsi, who explained the roles of prosecutors, attorneys, and interpreter.

“Prosecutors are hired by the government to ensure the smooth running of court proceedings. Attorneys and interpreters also play important roles in the justice system,” Nhlabatsi explained, emphasizing the importance of each profession in maintaining law and order.

The learners also observed live court proceedings during the fresh matters roll, where several accused appeared for drink-driving and traffic offences.

Curiosity ran high. Thandolwethu Nxumalo asked, “What happens if a prisoner escapes?” Nhlabatsi replied, “The police search and re-arrest the person. Escaping lawful custody carries two years imprisonment without a fine.” Another pupil, Manene Mdziniso, asked about assault inside the courtroom. Nhlabatsi explained that an additional charge would be added to the existing case.

“This experience helps pupils understand different professions and decide their future careers. Normally, we visit companies or hospitals, but seeing the courts was exceptional,” said Teacher Manzinde.

Through the visit, the young learners gained not only knowledge of the legal system but also inspiration to consider future careers in law, reinforcing the importance of education and curiosity in shaping tomorrow’s leaders.
