Africa-Press – Eswatini. Minister of Education and Training, Honourable Owen Nxumalo, has commended Macmillan Education Eswatini for its remarkable efforts in advancing digital learning and contributing to the development of Eswatini’s education sector.
The Minister made these remarks on Monday, October 27, 2025, during a tour of Macmillan’s warehouse in Matsapha, where he was briefed on the company’s ongoing projects and achievements.
Nxumalo learned that Macmillan has successfully digitised 176 out of 202 textbooks currently used at the primary school level in Eswatini — a milestone that aligns with the Ministry’s broader vision of integrating technology into teaching and learning.
He was also informed that Macmillan exports educational materials to several neighbouring countries, including South Africa, Namibia, and Lesotho, positioning Eswatini as a key player in regional educational publishing.
In his address, the Minister praised Macmillan for empowering local writers, educators, and artists, noting that the company has played a vital role in enhancing skills and promoting creativity within the country.
“Today, Eswatini has engineers, lawyers, writers, and many other professionals because Macmillan made a massive contribution to our education,” Nxumalo said.
The Minister further thanked His Majesty King Sobhuza II for having allowed Macmillan to establish its operations in the Kingdom, acknowledging the company’s long-standing partnership in shaping the nation’s educational foundation.
Nxumalo expressed appreciation for Macmillan’s respect for Eswatini’s culture, traditions, and history, urging the company to continue preserving these values through its publications.
He also encouraged Macmillan to document the Tinkhundla system of government, describing it as an important part of Eswatini’s political identity that should be understood by future generations.
“We are grateful that Macmillan respects our systems and values,” Nxumalo said. “It is important that our children and their children understand how the Tinkhundla system works, and Macmillan can play a key role in that.”
Through its digital innovations and continued collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Macmillan Education Eswatini remains a cornerstone of the Kingdom’s educational growth — bridging tradition and technology for the next generation of learners.
