Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Government of Eswatini is pursuing innovative measures to boost industrial growth and create thousands of jobs by learning from Nigeria’s successful Lekki Free Trade Zone. The Honourable Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Manqoba Khumalo, is leading a delegation of Members of Parliament and government officials on this week-long visit to study best practices in managing thriving industrial zones.
The delegation, hosted by Kellogg Tolaram, a major investor in Eswatini and Nigeria, is expected to gain insights into attracting investment, building infrastructure, and fostering public–private partnerships. In Nigeria, Kellogg Tolaram employs over 20 000 people, while in Eswatini it operates the Lush Hair factory in Ngwenya and the Sibebe noodle plant in Matsapha, employing more than 1 000 emaSwati.
Minister Khumalo said the visit will help Eswatini develop its own Special Economic Zones to support economic growth and job creation. “Learning from successful models like Nigeria’s will enable us to attract investment, create employment opportunities, and diversify our economy for the benefit of all Swazis,” he said.
Kellogg Tolaram plans to expand operations in the SADC region, creating an estimated 10,000 new jobs. The Eswatini delegation will explore industrial policies, investment incentives, and operational strategies that have made the Lekki Free Trade Zone a hub for business success.
Chairperson of the Ministry’s House of Assembly Portfolio Committee, Masiphula Mamba, described the visit as “a key opportunity to bring global best practices home, strengthen our industrial sector, and provide tangible benefits for our people.”
The delegation includes Honourable Wilton Nkambule, Ndumiso Gadlela, Sibongile Mamba, and Mthayiphi Dlamini from the Department of Industries within the Ministry. By benchmarking against Nigeria, Eswatini aims to strengthen its industrial base, create sustainable employment, and position itself as a regional investment destination.
