Africa-Press – Eswatini. National Commissioner of the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS), Manoma Vusie Masango, has been awarded the prestigious Medal of Friendship by the Government of Taiwan in recognition of his outstanding role in deepening security and law enforcement cooperation between Eswatini and Taiwan.
The honour was conferred by Taiwan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Chia-Lung Lin, during the 7th Taiwan–Western Asia and Africa Forum on Regional Security and Transnational Crime, held this week in Taipei. The forum gathered high-level security officials from multiple nations to address rising challenges linked to transnational crime.
According to Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Commissioner Masango earned the distinction for his leadership in strengthening bilateral police ties through the Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF), scholarship programmes, and other capacity-building initiatives that have benefited Eswatini’s law enforcement sector.
While presenting the medal, Minister Lin commended Masango’s strategic role in advancing cooperation:
“Commissioner Masango has been instrumental in promoting friendship and cooperation between our nations. His leadership has helped enhance law enforcement training and capacity building.”
In its official statement, the Ministry also applauded Masango for his vocal support of Taiwan’s participation in global policing platforms, including INTERPOL.
The Eswatini police chief was recognised for speaking in support of Taiwan during the 92nd INTERPOL General Assembly in 2024, and for continuing that advocacy ahead of the 93rd Assembly scheduled for 2025.
The Medal of Friendship reflects the long-standing diplomatic and security partnership between Eswatini and Taiwan. The two nations have collaborated extensively in areas of policing, education, and professional training, with shared goals of strengthening peace, security, and international cooperation.
