LYRIKAL BUSTA’S ‘MTUKULU’ SURPASSES 30 000 SPOTIFY STREAMS

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Eswatini’s rising star Lyrikal Busta is celebrating a major milestone, as his latest single “Mtukulu” has surpassed 30 000 streams on Spotify within just one month of its release.

The track, which features award-winning South African artist Intaba Yase Dubai, was officially released on 26 September 2025 across all major streaming platforms. Alongside its Spotify success, “Mtukulu” has also recorded more than 13 000 YouTube streams, reflecting a growing international audience.

The title “Mtukulu” — meaning “grandchild” in SiSwati — captures the song’s emotional core. It tells the story of an elderly man who asks his grandson to replay the track as it reminds him of cherished memories from years gone by. Despite the sentimental inspiration, the song’s upbeat, dance-driven production has quickly transformed it into a festive anthem.

“It’s a happy and energetic anthem, and people will most definitely have something to dance to this December,” Lyrikal Busta said.

A Message of African Unity

Beyond its musical appeal, “Mtukulu” also carries a powerful message of cultural pride and unity. Lyrikal Busta said he wanted the song to speak across generations while honouring African identity.

The decision to feature Intaba Yase Dubai was intentional, aimed at fostering unity between Eswatini and South Africa during a period marked by rising xenophobic tensions.

“The aim was to create a song that would resonate with different age groups and tell a story of where we come from as African people. I featured Intaba Yase Dubai to also convey a message of unity amongst Africans, especially in these times of xenophobic attacks,” he explained.

A Blend of Heritage and Modern Sound

The single combines the nostalgic spirit of Sofiatown music with the modern, infectious rhythms of Amapiano — a genre dominating Southern Africa. The production was handled by renowned South African producer Skatl1 Beats, with Sean Cast HQ overseeing engineering to deliver a polished and professional sound.

Lyrikal Busta described working with Intaba Yase Dubai as both inspiring and educational. The artists previously collaborated on “365 Days,” which has already accumulated over one million views across platforms — raising expectations for the success of “Mtukulu.”

“Working on the song was amazing as I got to learn more from renowned South African award-winning artist Intaba Yase Dubai,” he said.

A Win for Eswatini Music

The growing success of “Mtukulu” marks an important step in elevating Eswatini’s presence in the regional music scene. Lyrikal Busta urged emaSwati to continue streaming and sharing the track to help push local talent to new heights.

“I would encourage all emaSwati to share the news and, most importantly, stream ‘Mtukulu’ as we promise nothing but top-tier quality of Eswatini music,” he concluded.
