Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Government of Eswatini, through the Ministry of Tinkhundla Administration and Development, has taken a significant step towards community-led growth by handing over the Nkhaba Chiefdom Development Plan to Prince Mnisi on 6 November 2025.

Zwakele Dlamini represented the Minister, Hon. Sikhumbuzo Dlamini, at the handover ceremony.

Hon. Dlamini said the Chiefdom Development Plan provides a framework for sustainable development and community-led projects, developed through collaboration between government ministries and the Eswatini National Trust Commission. He noted that the initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to empowering communities and driving sustainable growth.

“We congratulate Nkhaba Chiefdom on this milestone and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will bring,” he stated, urging continued collaboration towards a brighter future for the area.

Prince Mnisi outlined the Chiefdom’s vision, emphasising environmental stewardship, socioeconomic development, and resilient green infrastructure. He highlighted the importance of inclusiveness and gender equity, recognising the contributions of youth, women, and men in achieving the Chiefdom’s goals.

“Our development is a shared responsibility,” he said, noting that Nkhaba is home to Malolotja, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the source of the Mbuluzi River. He added that the area’s rich natural resources, flora and fauna, historical sites, and vibrant cultural heritage must be managed so that tourism benefits are equitably shared, empowering communities to fully participate in economic growth.

Nompumelelo Masuku, Chairperson of the Community Development Committee (CDC), explained the plan’s priorities, including access to clean water, community safety, environmental preservation, infrastructure development, youth empowerment, gender equality, and inclusivity. She said the plan reflects extensive consultations with traditional leaders, women, and youth, ensuring that diverse voices shaped its direction.

“This development plan is not merely a document; it is a manifestation of our collective aspirations,” Masuku said, adding that every community member has a role to play in realising its vision.

The initiative is part of a wider government programme to roll out Chiefdom Development Plans nationwide. The previous handover took place at Lomahasha Chiefdom, marking a continuing effort to empower communities through structured development frameworks.

The Nkhaba Chiefdom Development Plan positions the community as a model for sustainable growth, balancing environmental stewardship with economic development while fostering inclusivity and resilience for future generations.
