The eighth edition of the prestigious knockout tournament has been commissioned by the tournament patron, His Majesty King Mswati III.
The King was speaking through the Board of Trustees Chairman, Prince Hlangabeza, during a press briefing held at Nkhanini on Tuesday.
This year’s edition will be funded by E6 million, which is the second instalment of the E18 million three-year sponsorship announced by the King two years ago at Mavuso Sports Centre.
The football category will kick off this coming weekend with the regional eliminations.
Hhohho Super league side Emajukujuku are the defending champions of the regional tournament after beating Manzini Super League side Nsenga Comrades during the final played at Manzini club.
“We are hereby informing the nation that the Ingwenyama Cup has kicked off, and the two portfolios will advise on the logistics of the football and culture competitions.
We urge the nation to behave themselves throughout the tournament in order not to taint the image of the country internationally,” he said.
SMVAF Board Chairman Zithulele Gina said they are happy to be part of the tournament.
“We are pleased to be part of this auspicious event, which is part of our effort to transform the sports industry in the country,” he said.
