Africa-Press – Eswatini. A New era of hope has dawned for the Gwegwe community in the Shiselweni Region following the official handover of a newly constructed Neighbourhood Care Point (NCP) by Young Heroes on November 19,2025.
The E230 000 facility was funded through the generous support of the Thomas Engel Foundation, in partnership with Eintracht Frankfurt Football Club. The investment covers the construction of the building, purchase of a fence, and installation of a water tank to harvest rainwater for sustainable use.
Speaking during the ceremony, Young Heroes Executive Director Khulekani Magongo detailed the organisation’s commitment to ensuring that no child is overlooked. He said: “We also have mobile clinics which move around the NCPs in the Shiselweni Region immunising the children.
This is to make sure no child is left behind because parents lack funds. We have 102 NCPs in the Shiselweni Region which we are taking care of.”
He further highlighted their new nutrition initiative. “We are planning to grow indigenous vegetables like umsobo. We have discovered that these traditional vegetables have special nutrients which can help the children have a balanced meal, and they can also sell to add extra cash to boost the NCP,” he said.
When asked about expanding the programme beyond Shiselweni, Magongo confirmed ongoing work in other regions. “It will expand, as in the Hhohho Region we have built an NCP at Siphocosini, and in the Lubombo Region at Tikhuba,” he said.
The colourful event also featured the fourth graduation, where 32 children received their certificates. Teacher Ntshakala Khanyisile praised Young Heroes for transforming the learning environment. “We thank them because we were previously learning at a Gogo Centre. Going forward we wish to have a vegetable garden where parents can farm so we can sell to generate extra cash and also cook,” she said.
One of the parents, Minda Mbatha, expressed appreciation for the support. “We are happy as parents. She feeds them and even provided track suits during the winter season. We thank them because the NCP was not there before,” she said.
The new Gwegwe NCP now stands as a symbol of progress, care and community empowerment.
