Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Ministry of Information Communication Technology, through its Department of Research Science Technology and Innovation, together with the Kingdom of Eswatini Academy of Sciences, held the KEAS Annual Research Conference to bring together researchers, government, and private sector partners to turn scientific evidence into practical solutions that support Eswatini’s development, under the theme From Evidence to Action Mobilizing Science for Eswatinis Development Agenda.

The conference focused on promoting open science and data sharing, strengthening the link between research and policy, and encouraging collaboration that supports national growth. It brought together scientists, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss how science can address real challenges affecting communities.

Representing the Principal Secretary, Under Secretary Ms Macanjana Motsa said the gathering was not only for sharing ideas, but also to confirm a shared commitment to Eswatini’s future. She stressed that science must benefit everyone and not only a few. She called for continued efforts to bridge the digital divide, promote inclusive STEM education, and create equal opportunities for all Emaswati to take part in science and innovation, regardless of gender or economic background.

She highlighted that science, technology, and innovation are key to national progress and are aligned with government plans such as the Transformative Action Plan for 2024 to 2029, the National Development Plan, and the Strategy for Sustainable Development and Inclusive Growth 2030. These plans aim to build a resilient and sustainable economy.

The conference also highlighted priority areas including health and public health innovation, agricultural transformation and food security, climate resilience, energy and water sustainability, environmental protection, and digital transformation. Participants were encouraged to move research from laboratories to real life application, ensuring improved services and better living conditions for communities.

KEAS was praised for its role as a national think tank that supports knowledge sharing and promotes a balanced approach that values both modern science and Indigenous Knowledge Systems, which carry important wisdom on the environment and health.

Delegates were urged to engage in practical and solution driven discussions and to leave the conference with clear plans that translate research into policies, pilot projects, and products that benefit the nation.

The Ministry of ICT expressed confidence that the outcomes of the 2025 KEAS Annual Research Conference will strengthen the use of science as a powerful tool for Eswatini’s social and economic development, marking another step forward in building a knowledge based and inclusive society.
