Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Minister of Public Works and Transport, Chief Ndlaluhlaza Ndwandwe, on November 25, 2025, officially announced the appointment of the new Road Safety Council, ushering in a renewed mandate for the 2025–2028 term under Section 3 of the Road Safety Council Act of 1983.

The newly constituted board replaces the outgoing Council whose term expired in July 2025, concluding a thorough process aimed at ensuring continuity, strengthened governance and accelerated progress in the national road safety agenda.

Key achievements include the 2020 ratification of the African Road Safety Charter obligating the Kingdom to establish a strong Lead Agency on Road Safety—alongside the formulation of the Eswatini National Road Safety Strategy 2023–2030 and its Action Plan.

Eswatini’s leadership in road safety was further recognised continentally when the country won the Kofi Annan Road Safety Award in September 2023 under the Road Safety Management category. The Minister also confirmed progress on the review of the Road Safety Council Act of 1983, which is now outdated and misaligned with modern road safety challenges.
