Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Royal Eswatini Police Service is calling on the public to remain alert and verify all travel-related or job-placement offers, following a series of scam incidents that have left citizens financially and emotionally distressed.
Police in Manzini are searching for Thandeka Mamba (33) of Mangwaneni, Mbabane, who is wanted in connection with a theft by false pretence case.
According to investigators, a group of 17 excited travellers entrusted her with E131 040.00, believing she was arranging a memorable boat-cruise getaway.
Their hopes soon crumbled.
The suspect reportedly hired a kombi to take the group to Durban on 27 November 2025, even booking them for one night’s accommodation. She assured them she would join them the next morning to finalize their cruise arrangements. Instead, she vanished without a trace, leaving the group stranded and forced to pay additional transport costs to return home. More victims are now coming forward with similar claims, and police believe the suspect may face further charges.
Authorities are appealing to anyone with information on her whereabouts to contact the numbers provided in the official police bulletin.
In a separate but related incident, Mbabane Police are investigating how a 47-year-old woman from kaHlatsi lost E70 000.00 after paying a supposed travel agent who claimed to facilitate her employment in Canada. Months passed with no progress, prompting her to file a report. This case, too, reflects a growing trend of sophisticated scams targeting hopeful jobseekers and travellers.
The Royal Eswatini Police Service has reiterated its commitment to protecting the public and urges all Emaswati to remain cautious. Verifying agencies, cross-checking promises, and seeking official documentation can prevent devastating losses.
This renewed call for vigilance aims to safeguard communities and ensure that dreams, whether of adventure or employment, are pursued safely and confidently.
