PM LAUNCHES BOLD CAMPAIGN TO COMBAT CRIME AND ROAD ACCIDENTS

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has unveiled a decisive operational mantra aimed at bolstering national safety.

The launch of the new mantra, under the theme, “Police remain resolute in dismantling crime syndicates and preventing road crashes to fortify the security and safety of the nation,” took place during the annual National Crime and Road Accident Prevention Campaign in Ngculwini on Wednesday, 3 December 2025.

The initiative, launched in partnership with the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS), signals the start of intensified policing efforts ahead of the festive season and into 2026. The campaign brings together government bodies, law enforcement agencies, communities, and stakeholders in a collective mission to reduce crime, prevent road accidents, and enhance public safety during a period of heightened movement of people and vehicles.

Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility

Prime Minister Dlamini, who also serves as the minister responsible for the police, reminded citizens of the national slogan: “Nawe uliyiphoyisa” – “You too are a police officer.” He stressed that the responsibility of crime prevention and road safety does not lie solely with law enforcement but with every Swazi.

“For that reason, crime prevention and road safety must be priorities for every citizen,” he said. “Our national slogan emphasises that everyone – communities, workers, business people, and private institutions – must collaborate with the police to ensure that our Kingdom remains safe.”

He urged Emaswati to actively participate in the fight against criminal activities and road accidents this festive season. “This year, let us do things differently and bring an end to crime and road accidents. This gathering must produce actionable solutions that will inspire all Emaswati to engage in the campaign,” he added.

A Unified National Campaign

The 2025 safety campaign carries the theme: “The Government of Eswatini is intensifying the fight against criminal syndicates and road accidents in order to strengthen national safety.”

The Prime Minister highlighted the government’s firm commitment to tackling gangs and criminal syndicates that threaten the future of young people. “Government strongly supports the work being done by law enforcement agencies in addressing crimes committed by gangs, which endanger and destroy the prospects of our children,” he said. He further called on communities to reject tibi tendlu and restore moral values, stressing that public participation is essential to success.

Supporting the Police for Better Results

Dlamini acknowledged the government’s ongoing support for law enforcement, including the provision of additional vehicles to improve response times and operational efficiency. Despite these measures, he warned that crimes such as murder, assault, sexual violence, theft, and fraud – particularly those conducted via mobile phones and computers – remain significant challenges.

“Emaswati, let us be vigilant when using our phones and computers so that we are not deceived,” he cautioned, also highlighting the importance of remaining alert to instances of domestic violence.

Road Safety at the Forefront

National Commissioner of Police, Mr Manoma Vusie Masango, encouraged the public to prioritise road safety, exercise responsibility behind the wheel, and protect themselves and others during the festive season. He emphasised that responsible driving, adherence to traffic laws, and community vigilance are crucial to preventing accidents and saving lives.

A Call to Action for a Safer Festive Season

“This Christmas, we appeal to the entire nation to prioritise safety and protection, obey the law, and work hand in hand with the police to eliminate crime and road accidents,” Prime Minister Dlamini concluded.

With police deployed across the country, the government expressed confidence that Emaswati will enjoy a safer, more peaceful, and joyful festive season. The campaign underscores unity, responsibility, and the powerful call: Nawe uliyiphoyisa.

Looking Ahead: Strengthening Communities and Law Enforcement

The launch of this campaign reflects a proactive approach to national safety, combining law enforcement with community involvement. By fostering collaboration between citizens and police, the government hopes to create a culture of vigilance, moral responsibility, and shared accountability. The Prime Minister’s message is clear: safety is not only the responsibility of the authorities but a duty embraced by every Swazi.

Through the combined efforts of government, police, and the public, Eswatini is poised to set a strong example of how collective action can reduce crime, prevent road accidents, and safeguard the nation’s future. The mantra launched this week is more than words—it is a call for sustained vigilance, unity, and commitment to the well-being of the country.
