Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Minister of Finance, Neal Rijkenberg, has closed the year on a confident and hopeful note, encouraging Emaswati to embrace prudent financial habits, unity, and long-term economic thinking as the festive season approaches.

Delivering his end-of-year Finance in Focus address during a Ministry of Finance team-building exercise at Melkerns Club, the Minister reflected on a year marked by hard work, reform, and dedication within the public finance system. He expressed deep appreciation for the Ministry’s team, commending them for their commitment to ensuring that national finances remain stable, well managed, and responsive to the country’s needs.

Minister Rijkenberg highlighted the significance of ongoing public financial reforms, particularly the introduction of the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS). He described the system as a major transformation in how government operates, moving away from paper-based processes to a fully digital platform that will enhance efficiency, accountability, and transparency across all ministries.

Acknowledging the sacrifice made by finance officials who work through the festive season, the Minister emphasized their role in ensuring that the national budget is delivered on time in February. He noted that their dedication is central to building a stronger financial foundation for the country.

Turning his message to the nation, the Minister extended warm Christmas and New Year wishes, urging citizens to remember the true meaning of the festive season. He encouraged Emaswati to spend responsibly, plan ahead for essential needs such as school fees, and avoid unnecessary financial strain.

Importantly, the Minister called on citizens to think strategically about their finances by exploring investments and additional income streams, no matter how small. He stressed that even with limited resources, thoughtful planning and initiative can help individuals improve their livelihoods and build resilience.

Looking ahead, Minister Rijkenberg expressed optimism about the future, reaffirming government’s commitment to strengthening the economy, creating jobs, and reducing poverty. He concluded with confidence that the coming year will bring continued progress as the country works together to ensure better service delivery and economic opportunity for all.
