Africa-Press – Eswatini. During the course of the year 2025, the Kingdom of Eswatini significantly strengthened its presence and influence on the global stage, reflecting the positive outcomes of Government’s deliberate investment in international engagement and diplomacy.
Delivering his End-of-Year speech on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at Private and Cabinet Office in Mbabane, Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini said Eswatini had been recognised in many international platforms in 2025. Through active participation in multilateral platforms, Dlamini said Eswatini has continued to position itself as a respected and responsible member of the global community.
A major highlight of the year was the appointment of His Majesty King Mswati III as the incoming Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Organ on Politics, Defence and Security. This prestigious role underscores the confidence placed in Eswatini’s leadership and its commitment to promoting peace, stability and security within the region.
Further strengthening its international profile, Eswatini was elected President of the Global Council for Political Renewal for the 2025–2028 term. The Kingdom also secured a seat on the African Union Peace and Security Council (PSC), representing the Southern African region and contributing to continental peacebuilding and conflict resolution efforts.
Eswatini successfully concluded its tenure as Chair of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), handing over leadership to the Solomon Islands. During its term, the country played a key role in advancing cooperation among member states and promoting shared development priorities.
The Kingdom continues to hold the Chair of the Bureau of the African Union’s Specialised Technical Committee on Finance, Monetary Affairs, Economic Planning and Integration, further demonstrating its growing influence in shaping Africa’s economic agenda. In addition, former Cabinet Minister Mr Moses Vilakati was elected as African Union Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment, marking another significant milestone for the country on the continental stage.
Eswatini also expanded its diplomatic footprint by establishing formal relations with several countries, including Belarus, Belize, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan, while opening new embassies in Saudi Arabia and India. These developments are expected to strengthen trade, investment and diplomatic cooperation.
Crowning these achievements, Eswatini hosted the inaugural Conference of African Traditional Leaders, bringing together kings, queens, chiefs and traditional authorities from across Africa and the diaspora. The historic gathering underscored the Kingdom’s commitment to cultural diplomacy and highlighted its unique governance system.
